The Martial Eagle Project - Kruger National Park stemmed from alarming results reported during comparisons between the first and second South African Bird Atlas Project which showed that Martial Eagles had declined by up to 54% in the Kruger National Park. We will be carrying out a study from 2013-2016 as part of a PhD thesis undertaken by Rowen van Eeden supervised by Arjun Amar at the Percy FitzPatrick Institute to understand the cause behind the decline. One aspect of the project will make use of a colour ringing study to assess adult turn over in the park and determine the species ranging behaviour and distribution.
